On the night of Tuesday 22nd September Sydney experienced a wind and dust storm like no other in history with flash lightning, up to 9mm of pouring rain, and howling winds gusting up to 95 km per hour measured by the Buro of Meteorology. By 5am on Wednesday morning, Sydney was engulfed in orange dust, blown by 95 km per hour winds carrying thousands of tons of the fine dust from outback Australia, leaving the whole city sky with an eerie orange glow. The airport was closed, Sydney Ferries were shut down and city buildings, homes and cars were covered in orange dust, the likes of which had never been experienced before.
The crazy people at Kangaroo Tent City chose to go camping in this storm on Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour, to test the performance of various tents in extreme conditions. 86 tents were set up and tested. Dome tents by Coleman, Black Wolf, Diamantina and Roman. Canvas tents by Diamantina and Campmor. After the storm was over on Wednesday afternoon, an inspection of all 86 tents revealed only 3 tents had broken poles from the storm. 75 of these tents were the Campmor Hennie Canvas Dome Tent and not one of these tents had any damage. Every tent was still standing. This video footage was taken at 8am on Wednesday morning, whilst the winds were still blowing at more than 50km per hour, and as you can see, every tent is still up. An amazing result given the ferocity of the winds, and the fact that Cockatoo Island camping ground is in a highly exposed location, where the westerly winds roar down Parramatta River.
Kangaroo Tent City chose to create this crazy test, and the results prove Kangaroo Tent City go to extreme measures to prove they have some of the best quality tents in the world. Kangaroo Tent City are Australias camping experts. For more information visit www.kangarootentcity.com.au.

hammock-Hanging Knots – This is my favorite way to hang a hammock, because it makes it so easy to adjust your hanging height.
The whipping around the tree will not slip if tied corerctly.
WARNING: Make sure you tie the SECOND HALF HITCH or the knot may SLIP and come loose.
As with all knots, use your own discression and be safe.

PART 2
Every hiking trip is different in some way. That WAY will determine what to bring. For instance, if you’re in Florida in midsummer, you’ll bring lighter clothes and maybe not even a sleeping bag. If you live in Canada during the winter, you will want a lot heavier clothing.
Here are some items to bring on a hike:
Water
Food
Filter
GPS
Compass
Map of area
Knife
Mess Kit
First Aid
Sleeping Bag
Tent
Whistle
Flashlight
Fire Maker
Tinder
Cell phone
Watch
Clothing
Variations:
Water (how much)
Food (how much/what kind)
Filter (do you need one)
GPS (do you have one/ compass and map can be used)
Mess kit (do you need to cook)
Clothing (cold or hot/wet or dry/ length of hike)
Tinder (can you make fire without it)

I am in the market for a camping tent that will fit 2-4 people. I have been looking online for different ones around $150. I was wondering if anyone knew some good brands or has any recommendations. One of my main concerns is to get a tent which will not leak (and obviously a decent quality all around).
Your answer is a few clicks away for your convince.
http://www.cabela`s.com or http://basspro.com Quality and affordability These tents should come with a rain fly, make sure you get one with (a rain fly) to stay dry .
If you can`t find one with a (rain fly )then make one with a poly tarp lay it over the tent at night and tie it down on the corners to protect you from moisture. Take it off when there is no dew or rain.
Also I lay a sheet of sheeting or two of thin plywood on the floor to protect from ground moisture.even if the tent has a poly floor in a heavy rain water can run in .The plywood gets things off the floor. through a few sheets or pieces of sheets in before you pack the rest of the gear.
Presto- bone dry
I bought a camping tent, the zip up kind and I was just wonderin can I put it up and chill in it while I’m at the beach or at a park like central park??
Can I just ask why you’d go to the beach and put up a tent? Seems like that kinda defeats the purpose of why you go to the beach.
I caught a fleeting glance of a curved hammock stand, it seemed to be made of only about 5-7 pieces of curved and strait pieces of lumber. I have searched the bowls of the internet and can’t find any way to curve sturdy lumber, please help.
thank you
ha, well of course im up for a huge learning expreince. But before I jump in, I guess i really just want to know, how expensive it will be to actually bend wood (as in equipment).
Unless you’re up for a huge learning experience don’t even think about bending wood. I’ve made windsor chairs for 40 years and teach wood bending. A more practical way for diy is to laminate thin strips of wood to form a bend. Fine Woodworking mag. has many articles on bending(Taunton Press).
what is a good reliable brand of camping equipment that you can buy for a low price yet provides good usage?
I guess you’re talking about Coleman? But Campmor and REI both have their own lines of good to excellent quality gear and clothing which are priced lower than most of the higher end merchandise they also sell.
