That is a cool stove, Although. . . I’ve had no problems with the cannister in -30c with M. S. R fuel or even Primus 4 season fuel. Thats with the M. S. R reactor. Works like a charm every time )

Excellent video.

You said this is overkill for regular backpacking. Im looking at buying a stove to get started in backpacking. I already have a canister stove and i dont like it, i was looking at getting either a whitegas or multifuel stove because I want a liquid fuel stove because I dont want to have to buy canisters and pack them out. What are your thoughts and recommendations on an external fuel bottle stove?

I am liking the MSR Simmerlite, what do you think?

It is quite heavy for fairweather packing because of the pump, bottle, etc. that are part of the design. For a lighter stove, I prefer the canister fueled, but if you are insisting on liquid fueled, this would be a good choice. It doesn’t simmer particularly well unless you only pump the bottle once or twice, but I have heard the Simmerlite has a similiar quirk, though I have no personal experience with it.

Check on the MSR site to be sure, but I believe that diesel is one of the heavy fuels that it can burn with the second jet that is included. I don’t have the stove handy to look it up right now.

lol i got all excited cause i have tons of diesel and nothing that runs on it. . . but yeah it only runs on white gas and kerosene. . . the dragonfly and xgk run on diesel
