I am going on a backpacking trip with a few buddies of mine. To clean my ear, I use 1/4 tsb of sea salt(thats what the dude who pierced my ear gave me) and 1 cup of water mixed together. When I’m camping this will be hard. Should I use something else? Please help!

I’m flying to Arizona from Western New York on Thursday to see my best bud and the Grand Canyon. I want to just pack my backpacking gear and check my backpack instead of a suitcase. Has anybody ever done this?

Ways to Prepare Physically for a Backpacking Trip?

In the middle of June, I’m planning to go on a four week backpacking trip with NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School). It will involve hiking with a 60ish pound backpack in mountains at altitudes 8,000-13,000 feet. Right now I lift weights and jog 3-5 miles as often as I can (about 3-5 days a week), and in the Spring/Fall I normally ride my bike for 30 miles once a week. Still, I’m not really sure how else I can prepare for the trip. I know it’s a long ways away, but the earlier the better. Are there any good rule-of-thumb goals I could work to (such as being able to run X distance in X time, or something else like it) or any creative ideas? I’d love to hear from somebody, because I really just don’t have a lot of experience.

A friend and I are going backpacking for a week this summer. Last time we went we used a grill, but I am wondering if there is a better way to place/suspend a pot over an open fire? I don’t want to haul a grill around, and I don’t want to use a stove… Thanks for your advice!

i went to spain and had my suitcase with me and took the train everywhere from the moment i stepped foot off the plane. took the train for hours to northern spain, and for hours to southern spain and for hours to the coast, etc. does that count as backpacking.?
